We are a community museum that narrates the coastal urban landscape as an interconnected union of humans, plants, animals, architecture, places, people, and stories.
To visit an ecomuseum is to traverse a landscape, to meet the faces of a cultural community, to learn about and play with a tangible and intangible environmental heritage. Visiting means doing, touching, interacting, listening and observing. That is why there is not just one way to visit but many different ways to experience the inside and the outside of the museum on your own or with others.
For us, the public, accessible and democratic school is the heart of the educational community. We work and co-design with schools curricular and extra-curricular activities, educational experiments, and learning in public spaces. We propose different ways to visit and experience the ecomuseum indoors and outdoors.
The ecomuseum is located in the former Sant’Erasmo Locomotive Depot, built in 1886: a large pavilion with a pagoda roof, cast-iron pillars with ornate Art Nouveau capitals surrounded by a large garden that was once part of a seaside railway complex.
